Everything In Its Right Place

For the next three months, my life will be music. My senior research project will have me getting involved in almost every aspect of the music industry, from journalism and radio, to managing a venue and booking. At the moment I'm working Monday/Wednesday/Friday afternoons at KXCI Community Radio Station (91.3 FM) as the music producer for the Home Stretch with Cathy Rivers ie. I pick all the music and talk on air about the music. I also am working as an intern for Club Congress, where I'll be helping book bands, organize WXSW, work on marketing shows and events, and several other projects that I'm are working on making more concrete. Finally, I will be writing on my music blog Border of Sound daily, so feel free to check that frequently. More information on what the role of BoS will be in my overall senior research project can be found at the BoS website: http://borderofsound.wordpress.com/

Other than the day-to-day pieces of my senior research project, I also plan on attending two major events in the music world: SXSW (South By Southwest) and The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. SXSW is a massive music, film and interactive conference that takes place in Austin, TX every year in mid-March. I plan on attending the music portion of it, which will go from March 17th to the 21st. Last year's event had almost 2,000 bands from 42 different countries playing in about 90 different venues all across downtown Austin, TX. During SXSW, Austin really does become the center of the music world. I will be going to the various conferences in the mornings and then see the music showcases at night/early morning. Coachella is quite a bit different; it's a diverse 3 day music festival in Indio, CA, but the event itself is always the place to be in mid-April for music (I ran into Cameron Diaz last year; she . Both events will allow me to do some of my own music journalism, as I plan on reporting on both events through BoS.

One of my main goals with this blog is to really get the BASIS community excited about music, maybe not as much as I get excited about it every hour of the day, but hopefully by the end of my time writing this blog, you will have had a couple moments where you were genuinely excited to hear a new song, buy tickets to a local show or discover a new artist.

Finally, as I said before, the best way to know what's going on with my project and what I'm doing is to read Border of Sound daily. I plan on writing a sort of weekly recap for the BASIS Blog, but reading BoS will be much more informative of what I'm doing with the project.
