Welcome to the Government

Safety Meetings abound! Last week we had a base wide safety meeting. What did I take away from it? Don't play with 3-phase 480V boxes or you might encounter a neat phenomenon where the transformer blows up. Ask Alex Davis for the name of this, I forgot it like most of the silly things they told us not to do. For example did you know its a bad idea to store chemicals in a plastic water bottle? Or did you know its bad to throw syringes into a non-syringe disposal trash can? The base-wide safety meeting can be summed up in 3 words: "Don't be Stupid." But they have to tell us these things so they can't be liable when someone inevitably does something stupid.

Oh and Imperial units are terrible. Did you know that slugs are the correct unit to measure mass? When was the last time you ever heard anyone using slugs to designate mass? Metric system all the way.

  1. Hypothetically, what would happen if someone made a mistake like that? Would they have to lock down the entire facility?

  2. Which mistake? They would probably just make everyone go to safety training again and tell us to make sure it never happens again.

  3. Oh, I don't know, I guess I was just idly wondering. It makes no intuitive sense why anyone would use the imperial system, especially NASA. I think that by now, it's just kind of a nostalgic thing.

  4. Ohhhhhh. Got it, yeah aeronautical engineering uses Imperial units but space stuff uses metric.
