Last Monday I got the chance to preform Basta staining. Basta is a chemical that is used for non-selective herbicide, but we use it as a tool to determine whether or not a certain plasmid has been taken into the plant. If the plant is actually transgenic and took up the gene of interest and the gene for Basta resistance, then when a stripe is made on its leaf there should be no damage
More importantly, I noticed a very interesting phenomenon where plants that were already known to be B', which is an allele for pigment production that is very weakly expressed, began to show dark pigmentation! I will keep you guys posted on the mystery.
oops should have turned the photo.
ReplyDeletedid you know that your title is just a fabulous example of alliteration? and no I enjoyed looking at the 'B's upside down.
ReplyDeleteDevin, are you trying to start another cleverness war? That's it.
