Turn on the Bright Lights

So quite a lot has happened since I last posted and I figured I should probably post again to give an update on my current situation.

1. My project has been changed from music journalism to more of a focus on KXCI. I will looking into what exactly community radio is in Tucson. I also am hanging out at the Rialto, sorta learning the booking process. However, changing the project hasn't been without some problems. I was really close to interning at Club Congress, but now I'm not and it's kinda awkward now running into them on a weekly basis.

2. I'm not going to SXSW anymore. As much fun (read: AWESOME AND AMAZING) as it would have been, I didn't get as much support as I thought I would, and to be honest, most people plan to go starting back in September/October. If I were to go, it'd run me close to $1,000, which combined with how my previous project ideas weren't working, led me to decide not to go. I figure I'll probably just go during college, when it'll be a lot cheaper to go (skipping the conference, only doing the shows).

-I'm also dropping the music blog, mostly because it was incredibly time consuming and it wasn't achieving my goal of spreading the love of music to the BASIS community, mostly because no one actually read it, but also because of the change in direction of this project.

I bet you're wondering now, "What exactly is he doing on a day to day basis now?" Well every Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays from 3-6pm I'm the music producer for KXCI's "The Home Stretch", where I basically pick most of the music, help interview bands/people, and review music. Like I said before, I also intern (sorta) at the Rialto Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays 12-2:30pm. Since my project is now about KXCI and community radio, I'm also working on setting up people to interview about KXCI, regarding it's past, present and future.

To be perfectly honest, this project has turned out to be nothing at all like I expected. The first week into the project I quickly realized that my "research question" was just not a possible question, and I guess I'm realizing more and more, how hard it is to go researching into anything that I originally had wanted to do (music journalism & booking). I guess I've realized my original proposed project was a great way to immerse myself in the music world, but a terrible way to present anything to you guys other than my experience. So yeah, I'm tired of doing a project, but I'm going to give this reworked project a go, and hopefully it'll turn out a-ok.

Also, sorry for the wall of text, but there was a lot of to cover.

  1. Cody may I just say that I love how many times you've changed your project. It's starting to just be amusing, but I'm glad you seem to have found one!
